Veterans Rally to Halt Memorial Vandalism

PHILADELPHIA, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Veterans and other volunteers will gather Wednesday, April 14, at noon at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial to voice their concern over vandalism and to offer their support by patrolling at the site.

The Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is organizing veterans and others to monitor activities at the Memorial starting this week through Memorial Day. Veterans will be asked to speak at the noon press conference to voice their concern about the desecration of the Memorial.

More detail will be provided about the patrols and other measures to halt the vandalism from skateboarders and inline skaters, who have actually been destroying devices designed to halt such activity. Scores of veterans already have contacted the fund volunteering to patrol at the site on Front and Spruce streets.

A limited number of copies of the surveillance tapes showing the vandalism will be available, as well as new, more prominent signage outlining illegal activities at the Memorial. The Fund is a nonprofit organization that provides oversight at the Memorial in cooperation with the Fairmount Park.

Three juveniles from the Philadelphia suburbs were apprehended March 7 by police who have charged them with desecration of a memorial, a third degree felony that is punishable by fines and imprisonment.

Coordinating the Veteran activities will be Dennis Best, vice president of the Memorial Fund, assisted by James Moran, Memorial Custodian.

A private activist organization apparently is picking up where the federal government left off when the Department of Homeland Security issued its "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment" warning that returning veterans and people in a long list of other categories were potential terrorists.

Only the new warning, delivered recently to police officers, sheriffs and other law
enforcement personnel across the country, is lumping those dedicated to the constitutional principles on which the nation was founded together with crazed killers.

The fall 2009 "Intelligence Report" was issued recently by the Southern Poverty Law Center, where officials confirmed to WND it was published specifically for and delivered to law enforcement personnel across the nation.

The SPLC did not respond to a WND request for other comment.

Gee I wonder why SPLC didn't want to talk to a news outlet. Does anyone but me remember Morris Dees from the 90's? That piece of scum worked for SPLC.

As you read this list, see if any of the criteria listed applies to anyone you know. If it does, immediately report them to the SPLC. The future of your freedom depends upon it.

Oppose abortion

Secretary Shinseki Orders Emergency Checks to Students Awaiting Education Benefits
Thousands of Checks to Alleviate Student Financial Burden

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has authorized checks for up to $3,000 to be given to students who have applied for educational benefits and who have not yet received their government payment. The checks will be distributed to eligible students at VA regional benefits offices across the country starting Oct. 2, 2009.

“Students should be focusing on their studies, not worrying about financial difficulties,” Secretary Shinseki said. “Education creates life-expanding opportunities for our Veterans.”

Starting Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, students can go to one of VA’s 57 regional benefit offices with a photo ID and a course schedule to request advance payment of their education benefits. Because not all these offices are located near students, VA expects to send representatives to schools with large Veteran-student bodies and work with Veteran Service Organizations to help students with transportation needs.

A list of those VA regional offices is available at www.vba.va.gov/VBA/benefits/offices.asp.

“I’m asking our people to get out their road maps and determine how we can reach the largest number of college students who can’t reach us,” VA’s Under Secretary for Benefits Patrick Dunne said. “Not everyone has a car. Not everyone can walk to a VA benefits office.”

Although VA does not know how many students will request emergency funds, it has approximately 25,000 claims pending that may result in payments to students. The funds VA will give to students now are advance payments of the earned benefits for education benefits.
This money will be deducted from future education payments.

VA officials said students should know that after this special payment, they can expect to receive education payments on the normal schedule -- the beginning of the month following the period for which they are reimbursed.

“This is an extraordinary action we’re taking,” said Shinseki. “But it’s necessary because we recognize the hardships some of our Veterans face.”

More than 27,500 students have already received benefits for housing or books under the new Post-9/11 GI Bill, or their schools received their tuition payments.

WLF partners with White House and VA to get GI Bill payments expedited

The Warrior Legacy Foundation (WLF) is working with the White House and the VA to assist veterans who have been experiencing delays in GI Bill payments. Recently a number of veterans have not received payment for college expenses they are due in a timely fashion. This has caused financial hardship in an already difficult economy.

This is unacceptable and WLF is committed to helping fix the problem.

Our leaders have been in contact with veterans officials at both the White House and VA and they agree this is a priority that must be addressed. They have dedicated resources and we will be working with them to expedite these payments and to ensure that systemic problems are addressed. We will provide assistance to veterans affected by this and connect them with the proper authorities to get them the benefits they earned. We appreciate the attention and help from both the White House and VA in rectifying this.

Putting A Lock-Out Tag on the Political Machine

Campaign season is officially open. Local politics will be the focus for the next 3 months and then we move into the 2010 campaign cycle. We had some great candidates in 2006 and 2008, but the political machines at the local levels prevented some of them from getting on the ballot and others were outspent.

We can’t let that happen in 2010. It’s time to take over the process and show the machine we know where the shutdown switch is.

This is where grassroots conservatives need to exert the most influence. We need good solid conservatives.

This blog will give first consideration to any veteran who wishes to declare his or her intention to seek an elected office, especially here in the Commonwealth. The leadership skills and the oath to defend the Constitution are the qualifications needed to insure our Nation remains the reality the Founders envisioned.

We need a good candidate for VA-03. It’s time for Mr Scott to retire. The good folks in southeast Virginia deserve someone who is more in tune with the grassroots and is familiar with the Navy and veteran’s issues. Someone with experience in the VA and DoD.

Military Families United Issues Report on Ohbaby

America's leading military family advocacy organization has released President Obama's 100-day National Security Report Card, evaluating the administration's policy decisions in a number of key areas.

The grades were not so glowing in a report card issued by Military Families United (MFU), which evaluated Obama and his defense team on Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, veterans, defense policies, and military family issues. Commander Kirk Lippold (USN-Ret.), the senior military fellow for MFU, says while Obama scored Bs on Iraq and Afghanistan, he received an F for his actions involving Guantanamo Bay.

"I think that the decision to close Guantanamo Bay by an arbitrary date with no plans in place, no policy established, and no idea about what you're going to do with those detainees, clearly is nothing more than a political model," he contends. "And our nation's security cannot be driven by politics."

Obama, according to Lippold, needs to be closely watched. "I would say that overall his performance has been average. And quite frankly, he bears a lot of watching," he adds. "You have to, again, look at what he does -- not what he eloquently says he's going to do. Keep an eye on him because if you don't, he will try to fly things under the radar and do things in the dark of night."

Lippold says Obama received C grades in the areas of veterans and defense policy, but only a D on handling issues related to military families.

Will you publicly CONDEMN the recently-released "assessment" from the Department of Homeland Security warning law enforcement officials about a rise in "rightwing extremist activity," labeling citizens opposed to new firearms restrictions, returning veterans and conservatives as "rightwing extremists" and associating them with white supremacists and violent antigovernment groups.

We have some questions and we are entitled to answers:
1. Who is funding this kind of nonsense?
2. Did YOU vote for this?
3. Why would my government spend my money attacking ME, instead of spending my money PROTECTING me?

This report is an insult to military veterans and American gun owners, and as a Member of the U.S. Congress, I would like to see you and your colleagues TAKE ACTION IMMEDIATELY to condemn this report, and to demand its retraction by DHS.Specifically, the following questions should be addressed:
1- Who asked for the production of this document?
2- What was the product description?
3- What were the sources used to prepare this document?
4- What were the competing hypothesis in doing the analysis?
